Doing things yourself is better, but help is always welcome

Sometimes you can't do things yourself, without help.

I know it makes no sense, but there are times when you want or even need to do something by yourself, but you can't without a little bit of help from someone else. In my case, I have been struggling with the cover artwork for the book. I've hired two separate designers to make me a cover and I haven't really liked either of them. Of course, I still gave both designers glowing reviews because their work was good -- it just wasn't what I was looking for.

While I didn't use their designs, I DID get a good sense of what I wanted thanks to them. Fortunately, I'm a Graphic Designer myself and was able to use their ideas (and layout) and combine it with my own sense of style to create, what I believe to be, a pretty good cover. I'd like to say I saved money by building it myself, but since I paid the previous designers, I did not. Arguably, I spent more than what a cover should cost, but it was worth it in the end.

My point in this little tangent of mine is that I don't like having help. I prefer to do things myself the majority of the time, and admitting that I'm unable to complete something on my own feels like a show of weakness to me. We all know that's simply not true, but learning that is one of the hardest lessons in life -- so I'll do my part by telling you, the readers, that asking for help is okay and even if you think something has to be done yourself, you may still need a little help getting started.

Well, that concludes this pointless rambling of mine, and if you read this far you're no doubt more confused now than when you started reading. If it's any consolation, I feel the same way. 'Til next time!

Though it can be cheaper if you dig enough.
